It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Velothon Sunshine Coast 2017, the ultimate four-day winter cycling escape for riding enthusiasts.
The inaugural Velothon Sunshine Coast brings together a stunning riding location with Queensland’s tropical climate to create a world class cycling experience.
Velothon is set to attract competitors and spectators from across the country and around the world to Queensland, contributing towards the state’s tourism prosperity.
The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support this event through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of Queensland’s It’s Live! events calendar.
Best of luck to everyone taking part and I encourage you to make the most of the unique tourism experiences on offer during your stay on the Sunshine Coast.

Message from the Mayor of Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Counsillor Mark Jamieson
Our beautiful Sunshine Coast is delighted to welcome the competitors, their friends and family, and spectators for what will be a memorable occasion - the first Velothon in the southern hemisphere.
The Sunshine Coast has long been regarded as one of the world’s leading destinations for mass participation sporting events and we are honoured to add Velothon to our calendar in 2017.
You join us at a special time as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast.
If you aren’t already aware, the Sunshine Coast is an ideal location to both compete and enjoy a laid-back break.
If you’re racing in the one-day or three-day rides, you will see the very best of our region - from our perfect beaches to the beauty of our hinterland and its many towns and villages.
You may find it difficult not to stop and enjoy the views!
My thanks go to everyone who has made this first Velothon Sunshine Coast possible and best of luck to all of the cyclists taking part.
I look forward watching the action here in Australia’s most sustainable region – healthy, smart, creative – in 2017.
Councillor Mark Jamieson,
Mayor of the Sunshine Coast
